The Northern Illinois Energy Project Helps Energy Consumers Save

When Illinois’ giant electric companies radically increased their prices in recent years, consumers couldn’t switch to a different provider, because none existed. But one thing consumers can do is switch to a new cost-saving light bulb, and the Northern Illinois Energy Project (NIEP) makes it easier to do so.

The Citizens Utility Board (CUB), the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the City of Chicago are partners in NIEP, an initiative committed to reducing energy costs and consumption. NIEP works with retailers to provide consumers with drastically discounted prices on energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs. It also supports educational programs in area schools to teach children about energy conservation.

VDC directs marketing for NIEP, developing the organization’s identity and launch materials, consulting on product displays in stores, and generating earned media coverage for NIEP representatives and elected officials.
