CUB Fights the Power for Illinois Consumers
For 25 years, the Citizens Utility Board has been holding Illinois’ largest power companies—ComEd, AT&T, Ameren, Peoples Gas—in check. And that has saved big cash for consumers. By fighting for consumers in the legislature, in court and in front of regulators, CUB has earned more than $10 billion in savings for ratepayers across the state.
CUB has recently emerged as a vital resource to home and cell phone customers, helping them navigate the labyrinth of complex service plans available in the market by providing free access to on-line resources such as CUBphonesaver.org and CUBcellphonesaver.org. The non-profit organization also conducts in-person clinics throughout Illinois, where residents can bring their phone bill for immediate analysis and money-saving advice.
As Illinois’s largest consumer advocacy organization, CUB covers the entire state. So Valerie Denney Communications has helped it obtain news coverage across Illinois broadcasts of all five Chicago television stations and another 19 stations downstate. VDC has also developed radio and television advertising to promote CUB’s affordable alternatives to costly utility services.
